Pamela Browner White named Senior Vice President of Communications at ABIM and ABIM Foundation

Her new role will focus on outreach to and communications with physicians; will support Foundation's mission to advance medical professionalism

Philadelphia, PA, August 15, 2016 – The American Board of Internal Medicine (ABIM) announced today that Pamela Browner White has joined the organization's leadership team and will serve as Senior Vice President, Communications. She will report to ABIM and ABIM Foundation President and Chief Executive Officer Richard J. Baron, MD.

Browner White will oversee ABIM and the ABIM Foundation's strategic and operational communications functions, seeking to expand and enhance outreach to physicians and external stakeholders, increase organizational transparency and effectively communicate the importance of board certification and medical professionalism. At ABIM, she will collaborate with the executive team and guide initiatives to respond to and work with physicians to develop a new Maintenance of Certification (MOC) program that will assist them to stay current in medical knowledge and practice throughout their careers. Additionally, she will join efforts to advance Foundation initiatives.

“Pamela has led strategic communications and community relations for large and diverse organizations, and I am excited to welcome her to the team,” said Dr. Baron. “Her experience and insights will help ABIM engage a broad group of stakeholders and keep them informed as we work together to ensure that MOC better reflects how physicians practice today and remains a credential the public can trust. She will also work to expand conversations about avoiding inappropriate or unnecessary tests and treatments through the Foundation's Choosing Wisely® campaign.“

Browner White has more than 25 years of experience in communications, public affairs, community relations and strategic development. Most recently, she was Senior Vice President of Corporate Communications and Strategic Development at Esperanza, Inc., the largest Hispanic faith-based nonprofit organization in the United States. Previously, she was Vice President, Public Affairs for Cancer Treatment Centers of America, where she engaged various audiences, including patients, physicians, media and industry leaders on important health care issues. Her experience also includes senior leadership roles with the Philadelphia Eagles and Citizens Bank of Pennsylvania. In addition, Browner White has a history of community service and is Chair Emeritus of the Board of Directors for the Marian Anderson Award and former Chair of the Philadelphia Youth Council. She earned a Bachelor of Arts in Communications from Youngstown State University.
