Article Notes Impact of ABIM Foundation's Choosing Wisely Campaign

Philadelphia, PA, April 22, 2013 – American Board of Internal Medicine (ABIM) and ABIM Foundation President & CEO Christine K. Cassel, MD, and Chair of the Board Robert M. Wachter, MD, have been named among Modern Healthcare's most influential physician executives for 2013. Citing the work of the Choosing Wisely® campaign as one of the most important quality initiatives of the last year, Modern Healthcare noted Drs. Cassel and Wachter's involvement in the campaign.

Cassel (ranked #9) will be leaving ABIM in July to become President and CEO of the National Quality Forum. After a national search, ABIM announced Richard J. Baron, MD as its new President & CEO earlier this year. Baron recently stepped down as Group Director, Seamless Care Models, at the Innovation Center at Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS). Prior to his service at CMS, Baron practiced internal medicine and geriatrics for almost 30 years in Philadelphia.

Wachter (ranked #26) is Professor and Associate Chairman of the Department of Medicine at the University of California, San Francisco and Chief of the Medical Service at UCSF Medical Center, and Chief of UCSF's 50-faculty Division of Hospital Medicine.
