ABIM Establishes Methodology for Setting Standards on Patient Care through Composite Measures
Philadelphia, PA, December 2, 2010 – Using data from nearly 1,000 physicians and tens of thousands of patient charts and patient surveys, and with the expertise of practicing physicians and experts in quality improvement, the American Board of Internal Medicine (ABIM) has developed a performance standard on a composite measure for diabetes care that can effectively identify who provides less than minimally acceptable performance, according to “Setting a Fair Performance Standard for Physicians' Quality of Patient Care” published this week in the Journal of General Internal Medicine.

AAMC Recognizes Past Presidents of ABIM and Their Contributions to Medical Education and Professionalism

Kimball, MD, former presidents of the American Board of Internal Medicine (ABIM), were recognized last week by the Association of American Medical Colleges (AAMC) at their annual meeting in Washington, DC. August 3, 2010 – U.S. patients of doctors who went to medical school outside the country and weren't American citizens had a 9 percent lower death rate on average than those whose doctors trained at home, a study showed.
