Diverse Voices Speaker Series: Building a Bridge of Trust: Inclusion of American Indians in Healthcare

The American Board of Surgery and the American Board of Internal Medicine cosponsored a webinar to discuss Native American/American Indian health issues. The panel highlighted the following speakers:

  • Alma McCormick, a member of the Crow Nation, who is a patient advocate and runs a community health organization focused on American Indians.
  • Dr. Hannah Woriax, a member of the Lumbee tribe, who is an Assistant Professor of Surgery for breast surgical oncology at Duke University.
  • Dr. Lucas Toho, a member of Caddo Nation, who is a general surgeon at Grady Memorial Hospital in Chickasha, Oklahoma.
  • Dr. Lukejohn Day, a member of the Oglala Lakota Nation, who is the President of the Association of American Indian Physicians, a Professor of Medicine at the University of California San Francisco, Chief Medical Officer at the Zuckerberg San Francisco General Hospital.

Celebrating Women’s History Month:
ABIM Discussion Panel

ABIM staff was invited to join Celebrating Women’s History Month: ABIM Discussion Panel. Moderated by Rebecca Lipner, Ph.D, Senior Vice President, Assessment and Research for ABIM, the session highlighted women in leadership positions within the healthcare industry. Panelists discussed their experiences, concerns and hopes for the future for women in leadership. Panelists included:

  • Antonia M. Villarruel Ph.D, RN, FAAN, Professor and Margaret Bond Simon Dean of Nursing at University of Pennsylvania School of Nursing
  • Jeanne M. Marrazzo, MD, Director, Division of Infectious Diseases at University of Alabama at Birmingham
  • Marianne Green, Vice Dean for Education at the Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine, formerly ABIM Board of Directors member
  • Scharles Konadu, MD, ABIM Gastroenterology Board, gastroenterologist and consultant for Huguley Medical Associates in Burleson Texas, 
  • Vineet Arora, MD, Dean for Medical Education at The University of Chicago Pritzker School of Medicine, formerly ABIM Board of Directors Member

Pride Panel Discussion

ABIM hosted an engaging panel discussion on the impact anti-LGBTQ+ legislation will have on clinicians, trainees and patients. The panel also discussed the patient benefits of gender affirming care. Speakers included:
