  • How does ABIM create its assessments?
    January 17, 2023  |  ABIM creates and administers at least 50 initial certification and traditional 10-year MOC assessments across nearly two dozen disciplines each year, and 15 Longitudinal Knowledge Assessments (LKA®) quarterly. This number continues to grow with the development of the LKA in additional specialty areas. For every assessment, each question is developed, reviewed, revised, approved, pre-tested and then discarded (if shown to not be working properly) or revised and tested again before finally appearing on an assessment as a scored question.

    June 21, 2024  |  Collaborative study by researchers from Harvard Medical School, Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center and ABIM concludes that high exam scores are linked to better patient outcomes for newly trained internists, yet no link was found for the residency evaluations
  • Internal Medicine Board Meeting Summary | Spring 2024
    July 26, 2024  |  The Internal Medicine Board held its spring meeting on Thursday, May 23, 2024. The agenda provided an opportunity to update the Specialty Board on activity at ABIM and allowed for discussion of pressing issues in the field. The Internal Medicine Board was joined for a portion of the meeting* by representatives of the Alliance for Academic Internal Medicine (AAIM), the American College of Osteopathic Internists (ACOI), the American College of Physicians (ACP), the Society of General Internal Medicine (SGIM) and the Society of Hospital Medicine (SHM).
