Abstract: International medical school graduates (IMGs) have consistently accounted for about a quarter of physicians who practice in the U.S. and have helped to address the shortage of physicians in the U.S. health care workforce (Whelan, Gary, Kostis, Boulet & Hallock, 2002; AAMC, 2015). Passing a secure medical certification exam is a critical step in the process of meeting the requirements for IMGs to practice in the U.S. The objective of this study was to examine how some examinee characteristics affect the probability of passing the exam for the first time. As such, the study builds onto previous work and investigated additional background data related to IMGs' medical practice.
