Sign in to your Physician Portal to view any remaining requirements for the year. Not completing these requirements by 12/31/24 could result in a change to “Not Certified” for one or more certificates.

Key Dates for the Academic Year

December - April

  • December 1 - April 15: Internal Medicine Initial Certification Registration
  • April 16 - April 28: Late Registration Period

December - June

  • December 1 - June 15: Subspecialty Initial Certification Registration Period
  • June 16 - June 28: Late Registration Period

August 

  • ABIM Internal Medicine Certification Examination is administered
  • All residents must finish training on or before August 31 in order to take the ABIM Internal Medicine Certification Examination administered earlier in August of the same year

October/November

  • Initial subspecialty examinations are administered in October/November
  • All fellows must finish training on or before October 31 in order to take a subspecialty examination in the same year
  • All residents and fellows must first become certified in internal medicine to be eligible to take a subspecialty examination
  • The internal medicine and subspecialty examinations may not be taken in the same year
